Showit Contact Form Tips

Even though the contact form is one of the most impactful parts of your website, it’s often overlooked and undervalued, so take our advice and follow these thoughtful Showit contact form tips (applicable to really any website contact form!).

Don’t ask too many questions

Less is more! Conversion rates are simply much higher when it’s as easy as possible for someone to contact you. Think just 4-6 questions total including name, phone number, and what they’re interested in. And simplicity is the key here — try to keep the questions straightforward and simple to answer, keeping the questions limited to need-to-know information for your records.

Ask how they found you!

Whether you’re terrible at analytics or just don’t find joy in tracking numbers, a simple question like, “How did you hear about us?” is a great way to keep track of where people find you.

The beautiful part is that if 60% of your business comes from Instagram, this is a clear sign that you should spend more time marketing on Instagram. The opposite could be true too which is why asking is so, so helpful!

Use required fields carefully

Speaking of questions, the less required fields you have, the better. Only require the questions that you absolutely need. We recommend name, contact information, and anything you need to know to accurately reply to the lead. If it’s a wedding, you’ll need a date so you can confirm availability! If it’s a potential coaching client or a business looking to use your services, you might want their own business name to look them up.

Consider these questions to help you determine which fields to include.

  1. Which questions will be easiest for a potential client to answer?
  2. What information is important to tracking your leads?
  3. What will you need to know for the discovery call?

We don’t recommend requiring a message (unless that’s an absolute red flag for you if a lead doesn’t share details) or information that might still be pending — your coaching client might not have a their new website live yet so they can’t share their URL and a wedding couple might still have their venue TBD.

Request two forms of contact information

Have you ever had a client share their email just to message them and realize the email bounces because they added it in with a typo? This is why it’s important to ask for two pieces of contact information — we recommend a simple email address and phone number! Then, if the email bounces, you can text to request a better email.

(Insider tip — if you work B2B, you can try to find their email address from their Instagram or website!)

Ask the right questions

Consider how you want your client experience to feel. Should it be easy, luxurious, fun, engaging? Answer your own contact form questions and make sure the experience aligns with what makes the most sense for your business.

Don’t shy away from using the filler text (the text in the form box that disappears when they start typing) to have fun or suggest answers. This can make answering those questions all the more easy.

Embed your CRM form

This is usually the most obvious but so many times, and especially on the Showit website platform, clients just use the built-in form. The problem is, this simply sends you an email with the same information without any sort of workflow or cataloging.

It’s usually a much more seamless process if you embed a contact form from something like Dubsado (our recommendation), Honeybook or 17 Hats.

Double check the functionality

The last thing you want is for a client to decide that yes, they will contact you, just for the form to turn them away! Maybe the submit button doesn’t work or when they type a beautiful, helpful message, it blocks the button and they can’t submit it even though they just filled it out to a T (something an ideal client would do, too). But with that, they simply can’t contact you.

Always make sure to double check the form before going to networking events or after making website changes. (Review the mobile too, especially on Showit contact forms where it can easily be revised on desktop without a look at mobile.)

Include your contact information on the same page!

And for the days when your CRM glitches or that button is hidden from the user’s long message, make sure that your contact information is visible! This is as simple as featuring your business name and email (or physical address if you have a storefront) so that if the contact form ever stops working, there is still a way to get a hold of you.

Use confirmation text carefully (and have a little fun)

Many contact forms allow you to show a confirmation or thank you message, I.E. the text that displays after the form is submitted. Try to be creative and on brand with your thank you, but also add specifics. How soon will they hear from you? What is the next step? Provide more answers than questions, but don’t go over the top. Just 1-2 lines is perfect.

(Would you say “Hooray!” or “Received, and delighted?” Have fun. www.wordhippo.com is a great tool for wordsmithing if you need ideas!)

Common website contact form questions

1. How do you create a contact form for a website?

Many websites have built-in contact settings you can update with the questions and required answers you want. However, we recommend adding an embed code from the CRM you use (think Dubsado or Honeybook if you’re a service provider)!

2. Should I include the contact form on multiple pages?

The answer here, ideally, is no. If you have a contact button at the top of your main menu bar, you don’t need to include the contact form at the bottom (or middle or top or anywhere) of each page. Users will know where to go to fill it out, so use the rest of the pages to feature key information about your business.

3. Should I ask for their budget?

We only recommend this if you don’t list any starting price or package information on your website. This way, you can filter out ideal clients or recommend the best package for their price point.

4. Where can I find Showit contact form details?

Showit has some basic contact form details here, but if you’re building a new website or customizing your new template (so exciting), we would be honored to help you here at Hone.
